Maimonides Cemetery – In 1853, like-minded Jewish immigrants in New York, concerned about the welfare and future of their communities, established The Maimonides Benevolent Society. This brotherhood looked after its membership in times of illness and difficulty, looked towards the community’s future needs, and provided an opportunity to socialize. The society recognized the need for a Jewish Cemetery and purchased burial grounds for members and future generations. This became Maimonides Cemetery, in Brooklyn, New York. To meet continuing growth, eventually, more land was purchased in Elmont.
